Ocean May Have an Earth like Chemical Balance
Jupiter's
moon Europa always remain mysterious heavenly body for astronomy enthusiastic. A new NASA study modeling conditions in the
ocean of Europa suggests that the necessary balance of chemical energy for life
could exist there, even if the Europa lacks volcanic hydrothermal activity.
The
study conducted by scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena,
California, compared Europa's potential for producing H2 and O2
with that of Earth, through processes that do not directly involve volcanism.
Balance of hydrogen and oxygen is key indicator for creation of life. Study
suggest the presence of favourable factors for life on Europa.
