Scientoon on Antibiotics can harm the heart

Scientoon on Antibiotics can harm the heart

Scientists from the University of British Columbia have shown for the first time a link between two types of heart problems and one of the most commonly prescribed classes of antibiotics.

Ciprofloxacin  can increase 2.4 times greater risk of developing aortic and mitral regurgitation, where the blood backflows into the heart, compared to patients who take amoxicillin.

Class of antibiotics called fluroquinolones are  very convenient to use but for the majority of cases, they're not really needed when there is community-related infections. The inappropriate prescribing may cause both antibiotic resistance as well as serious heart problems.

Find a scientoon on the above fact and feel free to share it under creative common licence.
