Dolphins enjoy drugs

Dolphins Seem to Use Toxic Puffer-fish to Get High

• The dolphins, deliberate handle the terrorized puffer fish.
• Puffer fishes are known to contain tetrodotoxin which in small amounts can kill a human within minutes.
• However, for the dolphins, this toxin, according to experts, is known to create a narcotic effect when consumed in smaller amounts.
• It seems like dolphins have figured out how they can control the amount of toxin that’s released.
• Tetrodotoxin is an extremely potent poison (toxin) found mainly in the liver and sex organs (gonads) of some fish, such as puffer fish, globe fish, and toad fish (order Tetraodontiformes) and in some amphibian, octopus, and shellfish species.
